Sarah Widmer's mother, Ruth Ann Steward, has been called to testify against her daughter's husband, Ryan Widmer, who is accused of killing Sarah.

With Steward's testimony, Warren County prosecutors appear to be on the verge of wrapping up their case against Widmer, accused in the 2008 bathtub drowning of his wife. The two were only married four months.

According to court documents, prosecutors have whittled down their list of available witnesses to just a few.

It is hard to pinpoint when exactly the prosecution will rest. Lawyers on both sides of the case cannot talk to the media under a court-issued gag order.

Prosecutors also could call Sarah Widmer’s brother, Mike Steward of Washington D.C., to the stand.

Some of Sarah Widmer’s relatives, including her mother and brother, did not want to attend the retrial. They sat through the original trial last year, when the guilty verdict was thrown out because of juror misconduct.
